Dental Administrative Assistant
This program provides students with the base knowledge, skills, and work experience (preceptorship) to become permanently employable in a dental setting. Skill development is delivered in three areas:
- Full range of computer and office skills, including current software applications, keyboarding skills, general office management, accounting, personal and professional development, and customer service.
- Comprehensive dental administrative knowledge that includes an overview of dentition, tooth morphology, infectious dental diseases, preventive dentistry, oral pathology, etc. Students gain a solid knowledge foundation on which to perform their administrative duties and provide quality care.
- On-site work experience through participation in a three week preceptorship at an approved dental facility.
Career Opportunties
Graduates of this program are qualified to work in an administrative capacity in any dental setting such as private and specialty dental offices, dental clinics and insurance firms.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Implementation of an organized, functional scheduling and recall system that meets the needs of the entire medical/dental healthcare team.
- Utilization of verbal and non-verbal communication skills with both the medical/dental office healthcare team and the patients.
- Accurate collection of needed information for patient charts, and completion and maintenance of same.
- Understanding of the types of dental/health insurance, insurance terminology and coding required for completion of claim forms.
- Maintenance of accurate records in the management of accounts payable and receivable and the implementation of proper collection procedures in accordance with established policies.
